Hospital group spent nearly $4M lobbying in 3Q PDF Print E-mail

Associated Press, December 11, 2008 - The American Hospital Association spent nearly $4 million during the third quarter lobbying on Medicare- and Medicaid-related issues and other topics, according to a recent disclosure form.

The association lobbied on Medicare hospital payments, labor issues, bills promoting affordable health coverage and a better health information system, and an act that prohibits the display of Social Security account numbers on Medicare cards.

The group also lobbied on tax issues related to reporting practices for not-for-profit organizations and on legislation that aims to eliminate disparities in breast cancer treatment.

Besides Congress, the group lobbied the Social Security Administration, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Management and Budget, Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Justice, according to the form filed Oct. 20 with the House clerk's office.
